President Trump announced a delay on the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but this could be a political trap to expose Democrats’ pro-open borders positions during the election season.
On Saturday, June 22, President Trump offered Democrats and some Republicans a chance to address the illegal immigration border crisis. He announced that the planned mass roundup of illegal aliens by ICE was being delayed for two weeks, IN THE HOPE that a bipartisan solution to the border crisis can be reached.
Pres. Trump tweeted, “At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the deportations for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border. If not, Deportations start!”
It appears the tweet came after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, called Pres. Trump on Friday and urged him to call off the raids. The President’s delay places Pelosi and the Democrats on the hot seat to act.
It will be great if Pelosi and the Democrats address the asylum loopholes that are being abused by "migrants." If they don’t, then they will be responsible in an election year of not doing anything to stop illegal immigration and to control the borders.
ICE stated they would prioritize arresting and removing those illegal immigrants “who pose a threat to national security, public safety, and border security,” but the Democrats still opposed the removal plan. Democratic politicians in Sanctuary cities defended “immigrants.”
However, Pres. Trump had stood by the plan earlier Saturday, saying that "everybody who came into the country illegally will be brought out of the country very legally." He also dismissed the Democratic opponents saying they were mostly from "high crime" cities and sanctuary cities, like Chicago.
It will be very difficult for Democrats, particularly the presidential candidates, to justify their opposition to the removal of illegal aliens who have violated immigration laws or that have been convicted of crimes. It will also be difficult for Democrats not to close the asylum loopholes that are being abused by immigrants to enter and stay in the U.S. indefinitely.
However, it does not appear there is an interest by Democrats to solve the illegal immigration problem for political reasons. Hopefully, Trump will proceed with the deportations if the Democrats do not act to secure the border and close the asylum loopholes.
