Stephanie Leutert, director of the Mexico Security Initiative at the University of Texas at Austin, wrote for “Beyond the Border,” to provide “an in-depth look at security and migration challenges in Mexico and Central America.” Incredibly (outrageously), her latest article published on Friday, Sept. 27, blames the Border Patrol station in Falfurrias, TX for the many deaths of illegal aliens in Brooks County.
Leutert writes that Brooks County is the deadliest county in Texas for “migrants” trying to enter the United States.” She ignores and conveniently avoids mentioning that they are entering ILLEGALLY.
She writes, “while American policy focus has lasered in on asylum-seeking Central American families and unaccompanied minors, there is another migration pattern 70 miles north of the border.” This “pattern” Leutert refers to are illegal aliens.
In their efforts to evade the Border Patrol, Leutert writes, the illegal aliens risk their lives hiking through remote desert brush. Unfortunately, at least 650 people have died since 2009.
Leutert concludes that the “story of what is going on in Brooks County and who have died on this land, we have to begin at the Falfurrias CBP (Customs & Border Patrol) checkpoint.” She says, “This lone piece of infrastructure is the powerful, quiet force that sets in motion these 650 cases, rerouting thousands of people traveling north off the highways South Texas and into private ranchland.”
Let me correct Stephanie Leutert. The story begins in the home countries where illegal aliens decide to come to America ILLEGALLY. The illegal aliens are responsible for complicating their own decision to break immigration laws and travel through dangerous lands to avoid arrest.
Also, Leutert should blame the criminal cartels that smuggle illegal aliens to the border and into the United States. In many cases, the smugglers are directly responsible for leaving the illegal aliens helpless and alone in the wilderness to fend for themselves.
Finally, Leutert should blame the Democrats in Congress and state and local government who encourage and entice illegal immigration. Congress has refused to close loopholes in federal immigration laws, and state and local governments have defied immigration law enforcement by declaring sanctuaries for illegal aliens.
These illegal aliens are criminals trying to avoid the law. Border Patrol station is not responsible for anyone’s death or suffering, any more than police officers are responsible for the actions of criminals.
The article excuses illegal aliens and views them as victims of American immigration policy and law enforcement. Leutert doesn’t seem to understand (or accept) that America has the right to control and protect its borders.
Leutert teaches at a public, tax-payer funded university, but advocates a liberal/leftist position on immigration. Her opinions and research will be used by “experts” to justify illegal immigration.
However, illegal immigration is illegal, and it should NOT be excused, justified, and rewarded. What part of the word ILLEGAL doesn’t Leutert understand?
