"Mexico News Daily" is reporting that a feud over water caused the recent attack on the Mormon women and children. However, the massacre was carried with weapons that are not generally used by farmers, especially since private gun-ownership is against the law in Mexico.
This news report appears to be “spin” by the Mexican news media who are reacting to the international interest but fear to report the facts because of cartel threats. Many Mexican reporters have been killed, and news editors fear for their lives. However, the massacre is too big of a news story to ignore, so Mexican news has had to write an alternative narrative.
We should also listen to comments from the U.S. State Department. They want to call it an “insurgency” rather than a criminal or terrorist act.
The reason is that the State Department can use a failed counterinsurgency to justify the use of “nation-building” funds in Mexico. The U.S. already spent $1.6 billion in Mexico to fight the cartels through the Merida Initiative that was signed in 2008. Unfortunately, the cartels seem to be getting stronger.
This Mexico News Daily article is probably a “government bought” article, as they try to put the best face on this vicious attack to avoid American intervention and losing American money and to prevent retaliation from the cartels.
However, this massacre was a criminal-terrorist act, and the U.S. should declare the cartels “terrorists” and take the appropriate actions against them.
