I applaud Congressman Chip Roy for standing up to the Washington, D.C. "Swamp." As a constituent, I thank him for up to The Swamp and making sure Congress does its job.
Not one penny, and particularly $19 billion, should not be spent without a single Congressional recorded vote and quorum. The reason I supported and voted for Cong. Roy of the Texas 21st District was because I wanted someone to fight back against the entrenched and worst elements of the D.C. Swamp.
The spending legislation swiftly passed the U.S. Senate on Thursday, May 23, in the afternoon, but came to an abrupt halt on the U.S. House side with Congressman Roy’s procedural objection. He didn't like the notion, and I agree with him 100%, of moving the spending package forward with little time to review it and discuss it, and after most of the House had left town.
Furthermore, the large spending package was supposed to be for disasters, but it did not have one penny for the emergency on the Texas-Mexico border. Democrats and some Republicans in Congress don’t think the border crisis is a disaster.
In typical D.C. Swamp fashion, Democrats, the liberal press and some Republicans are blaming Cong. Roy for delaying disaster relief. However, the fact is that the legislation had languished in both the House and the Senate for a while.
Suddenly, just before the Memorial Day recess when many of the House members had already left, the Senate acted on it and sent it to the House. What is the role of elected representatives in D.C. if not to watch the government’s spending and legislation?
Democrats in the Texas 21st district are screaming because they love spending money, especially when they can hide in legislation that claims to help people. Remember Obama Care?
I thank Congressman Roy for standing up to the “business-as-usual” crowd in the D.C. Swamp. Taxpayers, especially those in TX District 21, should thank him.
When the debt is at $22 trillion, Congress must watch and review all its spending regardless of what it pretends to do. Thank you, Chip! You did the right thing.
