Apparently, according to Democrats, there is positive and negative racism in 2019. The positive is that a person can get with preferential treatment under the law and by society for being a particular (protected) race such as affirmative action. The negative one will penalize someone for disrespecting another race such as wearing blackface or "appropriating" a culture. Who determines what's good or bad? Apparently, the Democrats do.
Democrat presidential candidate and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren has experienced the positive. On Wednesday, February 6, 2019, The Washington Post reported that her 1986 Texas State Bar registration card, which Warren personally filled out and signed, listed her race as “American Indian.”
In claiming to be American Indian, Warren took advantage of affirmative action laws that give preferential treatment to minorities. She was also trying to avoid being discriminated against for being non-minority, more specifically for being white.
Warren has admitted that he used the minority status, and she has apologized for it. She also said there might be other such documents that could be discovered later. (Oddly she won’t reveal them herself.)
Affirmative action is considered "positive" racism. It gives certain racial and ethnic groups an advantage over others, and it is justified in the name of equality, civil rights, and social justice.
On the negative side, Democrat Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has been condemned for a racist photo that discovered in his 1984 medical school yearbook. Within days of Northam’s problem photo surfacing, Democrat Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring also admitted he wore brown makeup and a wig in 1980 to look like a rapper during a party when he was a 19-year-old student at the University of Virginia.
The reaction to both photos by the liberals has been wide-scale condemnation and an immediate demand for Northam's and Herring's resignations. The fact that Northam and Herring are both white males makes their behavior and photos a worse social crime.
White males experience the negative form of racism because they are at the bottom of the racial/ethnic totem pole. They can be discriminated against based their race and gender in the name of civil rights and social justice.
Our society has reached a point of hypersensitivity in race relations that allows discrimination by minorities against whites. Any action by whites no matter how innocent or goodhearted can be branded racist by liberals and create a social and political crisis.
On the other hand, some whites have gone out of their way to claim minority status to gain social approval. Beside Sen. Warren claiming to be American Indian, there was a recent story of a white couple that identified themselves as black, had tinted their skin black, and planned to raise their children as a black.
There is no justification for racism and discriminating by anyone or any group against another because of their race or ethnicity. There is no such thing as social justice either, only justice, and it should be applied equally to all persons regardless of race.
Discrimination can be called affirmative action or Jim Crow, but it is still discrimination. Racism is racism, and it is always wrong.
