In a clear example of inference in free markets, as well as another example of facilitating illegal immigration, the City of San Antonio has asked Aguila Express, a bus company based in Eagle Pass, to stop overcharging migrants for their tickets from the border town to San Antonio. This action by the City could also be interpreted as a violation of the state’s Anti-Sanctuary Cities law.
San Antonio City Attorney Andrew Segovia wrote a letter to the bus company saying, “The vulnerable nature of this population is no secret. They are already overwhelmed without having to deal with predatory or illegal business practices. The mistreatment of these individuals must cease immediately.”
How can, and why should San Antonio’s government tell a private business what to charge for a service? What’s next, Demanding that the price of hamburgers de reduced for specific groups and populations?
Aguila Express has been charging illegal aliens that are released in Eagle Pass by the Border Patrol at least $75 each for a ticket to San Antonio, which is three times higher than its regular fare. However, many of these same illegal aliens have paid thousands of dollars to human smugglers to get to the U.S./Mexico border. Perhaps Segovia can write a letter to the smugglers to ask them to lower their prices, too.
The liberal San Antonio Express-News (SAEN) has written one-side and sympathetic reports after interviewing more than a dozen illegal aliens and San Antonio volunteers who assist them. Of course, the SAEN calls the illegal aliens “migrants” and portrays them as victims.
However, the fact is that in the real world, market forces always rule, and if people are willing to pay thousands of dollars to come to the U.S. illegally and $75 per ticket from Eagle Pass to San Antonio, let the free market rule.
Also, most of these illegal aliens have enough money to pay a smuggler and high ticket prices for an “illegal” service they want, i.e., to enter the U.S. illegally. What’s next? Will the City demand dope dealers lower their prices?
Government (local, state or federal) should never interfere with a legitimate private business venture, and the government should not assist or facilitate illegal immigration. San Antonio’s involvement in this matter smacks of social engineering and government overreach.
The taxpayers of San Antonio should NOT pay a city attorney to write to a private business about their business practices, nor should they pay him to help and facilitate illegal immigration. What Aguila Express charges customers for a service is their business, not the City of San Antonio’s.
Until these “migrants” are granted asylum status, they are paroled illegal aliens, and we must excuse and reward illegal immigration. Also, the City of San Antonio should support all immigration laws and stay out a private business’ affairs.
Wake up, citizens and taxpayers of San Antonio. There’s a city election coming, and the defense of freedom and liberty starts in your backyard.
