The Trump administration is proposing a new rule to try to block some 32,000 illegal alien-led families (families where the head-of-hold is an illegal alien) from receiving taxpayer-funded public housing assistance because it’s unfair to hundreds of thousands of Americans who are stuck on waiting lists.
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) notified Congress Wednesday of the new rule, kicking off a schedule of publication and notice and comment that could have the plan finalized later this summer.
In 1993, when I was working as a special assistant to then-HUD Secretary Jack Kemp, then Republican California Senator Pete Wilson asked HUD to support rules and regulations that prohibited of illegal aliens renting taxpayer-funded public housing. Wilson said allowing illegal aliens to live in public-housing would help Republicans bring Hispanics into the Republican Party. That never happened in California.
No doubt, Democrats and the liberal media will call this policy change “inhumane” and “discriminatory.” However, what is the point of being a legal immigrant or a lawful citizen, if illegal aliens receive the same benefits, services, and rights?
Until America stops rewarding illegal aliens with public housing or any other type of taxpayer-funded benefits and services, illegal immigration will continue. This policy change is one of several steps that need to be taken to stop and discourage illegal immigration.
