In another example of the leftist rebellion against law and order, King County (Seattle) Executive Dow Constantine issued an order pressuring companies that fuel planes, to stop servicing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) flights or lose their contracts with the county. Bryan Wilcox, ICE’s acting field operations director in Seattle, said, “state and local efforts thwarting ICE operations serve only to create additional security concerns and add significant delays and costs to U.S. taxpayers.”
ICE has deported about 34,000 illegal aliens over the last decade from the King County airport, but a recent politically motivated study done by the University of Washington’s liberal Center for Human Rights criticized the use of the airport, and Constantine issued the directive to airport businesses.
Tanya Roman, an ICE spokesperson, issued a press release detailing some of the illegal immigrants deported with charter flights from the King County Airport. The list includes a Mexican citizen wanted for human trafficking, a Honduran man accused of rape and murder and a Guatemalan man charged with torture and murder.
Also, Aaron Thompson, a King County Sheriff’s deputy whose brother Deputy Ryan Thompson was shot and killed by an illegal alien, said sanctuary policies make it more dangerous for law enforcement and the public. Dori Monson, a talk show host on KIRO Radio in Seattle added, “The local bureaucrats have decided that they can unilaterally just decide what our nation’s laws are, and what we’re going to comply with and what we are not.”
One thing is for a person or an elected official to hold personal political views, but it is a problem when political leaders pressure or bully businesses into complying with their beliefs and encourage the violation of federal laws. King County Exec Constantine should be charged with political blackmail and intimidation, as well as undermining and encouraging the violation of federal immigration laws.
Sanctuary jurisdictions and their leaders must be held responsible and punished. Otherwise, they will continue to excuse, encourage, reward, and protect illegal aliens. Elected officials must obey all laws, and not choose which laws they enforce and which they will ignore.
