The negative impact of illegal immigration and the border crisis is being felt by large and small communities, mostly thanks to local liberal policies that invite and support illegal immigration. Cities and towns are feeling the pinch now, but it will get worse as more “migrants” arrive.
For example, in Carrizo Springs, TX, the federal government was planning to turn rental apartments for oil workers into a shelter for “migrants.” Residents have protested the plan because they fear the illnesses and crime the aliens might bring to their small community.
In San Antonio, the city government is searching for French speakers to help about 400 West Africans who are in local shelters. The West Africans are in addition to several thousand “migrants” that are already in the city straining local social services and public safety.
Almost half a million migrants have entered the U.S. since January 2019, and they are creating a problem not only at the border but also in communities in the interior of the country. Uncontrolled immigration has brought crime and social issues to many cities that never dealt with such problems, and it is only going to get worst.
The majority of these immigrants are not the “best and the brightest” from their countries, but rather, they are the poorest of the poor from 3rd world nations. They have low or no technical and vocational skills, which affects their employability, and it will swell the unemployment rolls.
They will put a strain on local social services, including welfare, the local school system, and public health. Homelessness, vagrancy, and crime will rise because these newcomers have nowhere to go and nothing to do.
There is also the cultural and language gap these new aliens will face. A growing number of them do not come from Latin America but distant continents like in Africa and Asia. There are few communities of similar language and culture that can welcome them or serve as a safety net to help them adjust and assimilate into America.
For example, Latino aliens in San Antonio/Bexar County have a “safety net” among the 1.7 million people with a Latino population of 60%. However, there are a few French speakers who can communicate with the West Africans, and even the local African American community, which is only 7.5%, will seem very foreign to them.
Public safety and law enforcement will also be affected because these new aliens will undoubtedly be victims of crime and commit crimes, be they major or minor violations. Police and firefighters will need to learn new languages and be “sensitive” to the unique cultures, and they will be held responsible for keeping the peace and providing safety for and among these uninvited foreigners.
Controlled, selective, and legal immigration would be so much better for America and its communities.
Unfortunately, taxpayers will pay for the liberal policies of local governments that attract and support illegal aliens. The taxpayers will pay the bills and suffer the probable lowering of their community’s quality of life.
