Yet another local government is moving toward limiting immigration law enforcement and creating a “sanctuary” for illegal aliens. Northampton County, Pennsylvania, with pressure from the ACLU and other pro-illegal alien groups, is reacting to the arrest of an illegal alien from Guatemala by implementing a new policy.
Franklin Urrutia-Cordon, a Guatemalan citizen who entered the United States illegally in 2007, pleaded guilty to a 2017 drunken driving case when the ICE agent approached him in a courthouse hallway. He was arrested by ICE at the Courthouse on Monday, March 2, creating a “shock” among some local people.
Many liberals in the legal community say the ICE presence in the Courthouse threatens immigrants’ fundamental right to access the courts. The ACLU’s position is that ICE should not be involved in enforcement actions in courthouses any more than it should be in schools or churches or hospitals because they are “sensitive” places.
Wana Saadzoi, a criminal and immigration lawyer in southeast Pennsylvania, uses the “sympathy card” to oppose the ICE arrest. She says she pleads with illegal aliens not to bring the children because she feels the children shouldn’t see a family member taken away by ICE in cuffs.
Urrutia-Cordon’s arrest prompted a new Northampton County executive order to address how the county will cooperate with federal immigration authorities. Under the new policy, the county jail and sheriff’s department will hold people who would otherwise be free to leave only when ICE agents provide a warrant signed by a federal judge.
Pro-illegal alien advocates say courthouses should be off-limits to immigration enforcement because the fear of being detained deprives immigrants of access to the courts for vital matters such as child custody or protection from domestic violence.
However, it should be asked as to why should illegal aliens, people who in the country without permission, have any rights, benefits, or privileges? What’s the point of being a law-abiding citizen or legal resident if illegal aliens have the same rights, benefits, and privileges?
The fact is that any crimes committed by an illegal alien, whether major or minor, would NOT have been committed if they were not in the country. An illegal alien commits their first crime when they enter the country illegally, and it shows no respect for our laws.
As long as illegal aliens receive legal protections and social benefits, they will be rewarded, and illegal immigration will continue. All illegal aliens must be punished, particularly those that commit additional crimes.
What part of word ILLEGAL, do some people not understand?
