Immigration & Customs Enforcement agents arrested an illegal alien at a church in Silver Springs, MD, and the Washington Post (reporter Meagan Flynn) describes it in emotional terms. They condemn ICE for enforcing the law and portray the illegal alien as a victim. The news media seems to regularly lift criminals but criticize law enforcement for doing their job.
In this case, Binsar Siahaan, an illegal alien from Indonesia, has lived in the U.S. for several years. He and his family reside on the grounds of Glenmont United Methodist Church in Silver Spring, where he serves as its caretaker.
Liberals are shocked and angry that ICE arrested Siahaan at his home on the grounds of the church. The family and their attorney claim ICE agents “coaxed” him out of the house and arrested him.
Siahaan was detained in February by ICE and released on an ankle monitor while legal appeals were pending. According to his attorney, the agents said he just had to come with them to make sure the GPS monitor was working but has been transported to Lumpkin, GA, to await deportation.
Whether it’s local police or ICE agents, the news media seem to lift the criminal as the victim and law enforcement as the bully. Is there little wonder that there is profound disrespect toward law enforcement in today’s society?
Criminals will always view themselves as victims of the law, and the news media should not excuse and justify them. What part of the word ILLEGAL don’t news reporters understand?
