The root causes of the border crisis are in the historic complacent attitude by politicians, business leaders, and community groups toward illegal immigration and border security. Illegal immigration has become an "acceptable sin," and we must change that attitude.
However, once, illegal immigration was a trickle of illegal aliens from Mexico who came to work temporarily. Most that did settle down did so in communities near the border, which depressed wages and helped create local political bosses.
Now, it is an uncontrolled tsunami of foreigners from all over the world who use loopholes to enter and stay in the US. Because they are unvetted, there are criminals and sick people among them, perhaps even terrorists.
These new illegal aliens are also poor and uneducated people who will be a social and economic drain on the US taxpayers. They will fuel America's "poverty industry" instead of adding to economic growth.
We must stop excusing and rewarding illegal immigration with amnesty, social benefits, rights, and privileges that allow them to stay in our country indefinitely. Why send foreign aid to nations that send us illegal aliens?
We must enforce immigration laws and deport all illegal aliens, including minors. Unless we punish all illegal immigration, we will continue to get more and worse.
