Once again this morning (Friday July 3, 2015), Fox News had two commentators who are NOT Americans of Mexican descent talking about how the Latino vote is being hurt by Donald Trump’s anti-Mexico comments. Why can't they find and ask a conservative American of Mexican descent like (yours truly) for comments?
For five generations my family has seen, be affected by, and fought against illegal immigration in south Texas. We had to fight a war to create that border and Mexicans have never forgotten or forgiven. Since then, Mexicans have refused to recognize or respect the boundary.
Furthermore, Mexico suffers from a national inferiority complex towards the U.S., and typical see themselves as victims and blame America for all their social, political, and economic ills. A society is used to the “mordida” or bribe, and government that pretends to be a democracy can never progress until they admit their own faults and correct them.
Americans of Mexican descent have suffer from job competition with cheap Mexican labor in Border States for generations. Even farmworker leader Cesar Chavez used to call the Border Patrol to arrest illegal alien workers because he recognized they undercut wages.
America has also been a “safety valve” for the failed Mexican government and society. It is a fact that Mexico’s poor and unwanted, including criminals, have come to our nation.
Also, be aware that Mexico has failed to honor several international agreements and treaties with the U.S. The south Texas agri-business has suffered because Mexico does not honor water treaties along the Rio Grande. Mexican fishing vessels are routinely chased from American water for fishing illegally. Mexican air and water pollution impacts U.S. communities, and Mexico is slow stop illegal trade and commerce coming through their country into ours. Can we still say Mexico is our “friend”?
Finally, there’s the fretting over the “Latino” vote. Latino is a term Madison Avenue and politicians concocted to lump all people of Spanish ancestry together to counter American blacks’ political and economic power. Isn’t that racist? If you call people a term long enough, they begin to accept it and behave accordingly, however there’s no such thing as a Latino vote except in the mines of political opportunists…and racists.
American business interests are reacting to Trump because they are being “political correct”. They care more about their money than about the safety of our nation or its citizens. They’re “globalists”, not Americans first.
Spanish language media’s attacks on Trump are insincere at best and racist at worst. They want more Spanish speakers in the U.S. for their ad sales, and willingly or not, they are creating a separate and segregated Spanish speaking society that is not encouraged to integrate or assimilate, and become American.
Most mainstream media, and especially Spanish speaking media, refuse to let conservative Latinos defend America on the air. They particularly want to avoid those of who have been most affected, those of Mexican descent, from speaking out. That’s because many of us would tell the truth…and agree with Trump and Senator Ted Cruz about Mexico, illegal immigration and the Border.
