New photos have surfaced of former Democrat U.S. Congressman and current Bexar County Justice of the Peace Ciro Rodriguez, campaigning for his daughter, a candidate for Texas Senate District 19, despite state laws forbidding judges from campaigning on behalf of another person. This incident is the second time Judge Rodriguez violate state law in openly campaigning for his daughter, Xochil Pena Rodriguez.
The Texas Code of Judicial Conduct prohibits judges from endorsing other political candidates. In response to earlier reporting by KSAT, Rodriguez — a former congressman — left a voicemail with the station apologizing for passing out campaign literature on Peña Rodriguez’s behalf.
However, how can the public trust a judge who has repeated lapses of judgment?
In December 2019, Judge Rodriguez was caught promoting his daughter’s Texas Senate campaign by passing out flyers on his daughter’s behalf. He apologized publicly and said he wouldn’t do it again.
Recently, KSAT-TV 12 Defenders obtained a new video which shows Judge Rodriguez speaking at a Tejano Democrats event in late September introducing his daughter. The video clearly shows him politicking for Democrats in general and his daughter specifically.
Judge Rodriguez has deep radical roots. Like Rosa Castro, he was active in La Raza Unida in the 1970s.
His daughter, Xochi, is an only child who is compared to N.Y. Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez. She also has a liberal sense of privilege.
It appears Judge Rodriguez is trying to establish a “political family” in south San Antonio with the potential election of his daughter. His brother Sergio “Chico” Rodriguez is the Bexar County Precinct 1 Commissioner.
Ironically, Judge Rodriguez has said that “no one is above the law,” but he certainly acts like he is. He should not only be reprimanded for his repeated deceptive behavior, but he should also be removed. How can Judge Rodriguez be trusted, given his devious behavior?
