While national attention has been given to Dallas salon owner Shelley Luther, two Laredo women were also arrested for providing beauty services in violation of the city’s stay-at-home order. Ana Isabel Castro-Garcia and Brenda Stephanie Mata were arrested on April 15, two separate sting operations for allegedly offering hair and cosmetic services in their homes.
Their arrest exposed another example of the local tyranny that has surfaced in communities across the nation. State and local governments have used “public health” as an excuse to limit individual freedoms and mobility.
According to local prosecutors in Laredo, Castro-Garcia and Mata were facing fines or jail time. However, Gov. Greg Abbott amended his executive order on Thursday, May 7, which eliminated confinement in jail.
Liberals and leftists have used this health crisis at the federal, state, and local levels of government to advance their political, social, and economic agendas. It has also been used as a weapon to try to bring the Trump administration down.
Citizens often focus only on the national or state government, and they forget to challenge city hall tyrants who oppose constitutional freedoms and raise taxes. It’s up to citizens to remove them from office in the next election, or things could get worst.
The citizens must remember that the defense of freedom and liberty starts in your backyard, at the voting booth.
