San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and the entire city council passed a resolution yesterday, Thursday, May 7, condemning hate crimes, discrimination, and aggression against Asians and Jews in the City and “across the country.” However, the City already has a Non-Discrimination Ordinance passed in 2013. It is also ironic that neither the local liberal press nor the city leaders defended former city councilwoman Elisa Chan when she was secretly taped expressing some personal religious views and opinions.
This resolution is another example of using the COVID-19 fears to further the leftist, anti-Constitutional (free speech) agenda. The SA City leaders should cut back on city spending to save taxpayers money in this time economic stress instead of limiting free expression and personal opinions.
Government, whether national, state or local, should address issues of common concern to everyone instead of seeking to “protect” special groups and interests. All violence and crime against everyone and anyone should be punished, rather than define one group over another.
New York City recently passed an ordinance outlawing the use of the phrase “illegal alien,” and the liberal press has condemned anyone using the words “Chinese virus,” however, both are accurate descriptions. It is dangerous when politicians, especially leftist liberal ones, define crimes for special singled-out groups.
