New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has epitomized the progressive approach to law enforcement during the current riots by saying he expects the NYPD officers to use a “light touch” with “protesters.” Further emphasizing this progressive arrogance, Hollywood stars have developed a fund to pay the bail for arrested rioters. In the meantime, police officers are injured, and private property is being destroyed.
Dear Mayor de Blasio and other progressives, these are NOT protestors exercising their First Amendment rights. They are vandals and criminals, and they don’t deserve a light touch.
Progressives ignore the fact that if you excuse and reward bad behavior, you get more bad behavior. That’s what is happening in the streets today, and what has been happening for decades.
The “light touch” in parenting and socialization has resulted in unruly people who feel entitled. These riots are led by people who first want revenge instead of justice, and second, who are immature, insecure, and lack self-disciple and self-respect.
Since the 1950s, enlighten progressive policies have undermined American values and institutions. Progressives preached a lax approach to parenting to the American middle class. They also taught minorities they were victims of everything and deserved to be angry, while the poverty industry destroyed the family structure.
The tragic police incident in Minneapolis must be addressed, but it must NOT be allowed to be used as an excuse and justification for riots. What about discussing the daily crime and violence in minority communities committed by minorities, along with police behavior? We cannot let progressives continue to “decriminalize” every form of bad behavior as a solution to social problems.
If Mayor de Blasio and other leftist/liberal politicians want a “light touch” to law enforcement, let them stand in front of these rioters. He can see how “sparing the rod has spoiled the child” has worked out.
