There are many consequences for local elections, and one of them is who is elected the District Attorney, who is the chief local prosecutor. Sadly, Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the St. Louis, MO, couple who protected their home from rioters with guns, have been charged with felonies in the incident.
On June 28, a Black Lives Matters crowd marched past the McCloskey home as they protested the nearby home of the St. Louis mayor. The McCloskey felt threatened by the crowd when protesters broke down a private gate and headed past their residence. They said they feared for their property and lives and held a rifle and handgun on their front porch.
Of course, the leftist/liberal news media and BLM leaders criticized the McCloskey, who is white, for “threatening” the protesters. On Monday, July 20, St. Louis District Attorney Kim Gardner (a Democrat, a black female, and the city’s top prosecutor) charged the McCloskeys with felony unlawful use of a weapon.
In an interview on Fox News on Tuesday, July 21, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt (a Republican, a white male, and the state’s top prosecutor) was upset none that none of the protestors who broke into the fenced neighborhood were charged with trespassing.
Schmitt pointed out that the person who recruited the protestors and the planned protest admitted that he intended to break the law “to send his message.” It was a premeditated crime while McCloskeys were on their property, defending themselves from people who had committed vandalism.
There is definite effort to influence and transform the American judicial system at the local level, specifically by George Soros. From 2015 through the end of 2019, Soros spent more than $17 million on the district attorney races in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Arizona, California, New York, and even Texas. 2018, Soros donated over $1 million to support Democrat Joe Gonzales’ election to Bexar County District Attorney in San Antonio.
The results are that liberal/leftist elected officials in local governments are supporting the protestors and defending, even justifying the riots. Mayor Ted Wheeler of Portland has demanded that federal officers leave his city, and accused them of abusive tactics against protesters. Wheeler completely ignores the damage and injuries committed by the rioters.
Likewise, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot rejected the suggestion that federal law enforcement officers come to her town after a weekend when 12 were killed in the city and dozens injured by gunfire. However, in March 2020 alone, 1,300 inmates were released as the offices of the Cook County Sheriff, Public Defender, and State’s Attorney focused on releasing those awaiting trial and low-level, nonviolent offenders. In the meantime, Lightfoot blames guns for the violence.
Even liberal Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized New York City leaders a spike in violent crimes. Cuomo cited the release of inmates from Rikers Island jails during the COVID-19 crisis, failure of district attorneys to enforce the law, and the poisoned relations between the NYPD and New Yorkers as a trigger in the uptick in crime.
In city after city across the country, criminal and anti-social behavior are being excused, justified, and defended by liberal/leftist elected officials. On the other hand, the Constitutional rights of citizens such as the 1st and 2nd Amendment rights are being infringed on governors, mayors, and other state and local officials.
Local elections have consequences, especially when leftists who don’t support the Constitution are elected. Remember, the defense of freedom starts in your backyard at the voting booth.
