San Antonio City Councilman Roberto Treviño, a radical leftist Democrat, has called for defunding SAPD. Like other major cities across the country, the San Antonio City Council has been pandering to Black Lives Matter and portraying all police and law enforcement officers as racist villains who victimize blacks.
Trevino said, “We must take action and defund the police. Those funds must be reallocated into social services that support our community. We have an opportunity to make changes to the upcoming bargaining contract agreement. Change can happen the moment we take action, and this action is long overdue.”
Attacking the police officers’ pension is a backdoor approach to defund and discourage the officers. Be assured that the BLM and leftists’ goal is to abolish the police altogether.
Imagine calling a social worker when you’re a victim of a violent crime. Trevino and other progressive believe the role of the city government to do social engineering at the expense of public safety.
If individual members of the community want specific social services instead of police protection, let them pay for it. The general public should not suffer because of the fear and problems of a few.
Rather than defund the police, why not relocate funds from nonessential programs and projects like the money for the deer land bridge and for providing legal counseling to illegal aliens? Why not defund the city council and the mayor?
If any government employees deserve a good retirement and medical pension, it’s the police who put their lives on a line every day. An essential government service to the public is public safety to ensure domestic tranquility.
It is also shameful that members of the city government are allowed to show their support for a racist, political movement like BLM. Imagine what the Democrats would say if a city employee was wearing a button that supports the Tea Party.
Government employees should be impartial and neutral on all matters, and showing support for a radical racist Marxist group like Black Lives Matter is inexcusable.
Taxpayers must recognize that all city government paper pushers are expendable, except for those involved in public safety. Their wellbeing should be part of the employment package because they put their lives at risk every day and because “Blue Lives Matter.”
