Two years ago, several George Soros-backed district attorneys were elected throughout the U.S. and began implementing liberal/leftist policies that undermine public safety and endanger citizens. Two examples are in Los Angeles and San Antonio, where the county district attorneys fail to prosecute criminals fully.
Citizens need to wake up and push back before their communities become as crime-ridden as New York or Portland.
In Los Angeles, George Gascon is the new district attorney implementing some new guidelines to decriminalize minor crimes. He says it will save money, create less recidivism, and lower the crime rates.
Specifically, Gascon announced he is eliminating cash bail on non-violent offenses and enhanced prison sentences. He also said that his office would no longer seek the death penalty and take a less aggressive approach to lower-level offenders.
Victims' rights advocates and pro-law and order supporters have criticized Gascon's policies as illegal and dangerous to society. They say Gascon's claims of saving money and lowering recidivism and crime rates will happen because criminals are not prosecuted, but the public will suffer.
In San Antonio (Bexar County), D.A. Joe Gonzales has instituted a “cite-and-release” program for nonviolent offenses — especially involving marijuana — that has released nearly 2,500 people. Gonzales also says he saves taxpayers $1.8 million in booking and court costs and frees police officers to work on higher-priority crime.
The local liberal news media praises Gonzales and his program and claims local judges, police, and the criminal defense bar support it.
However, San Antonio City Councilman Clayton Perry says he looks at it from the victims' perspective. Perry wonders if justice is served for the victims of crimes like criminal mischief, tagging, shoplifting.
The rank-and-file law enforcement officers in San Antonio are also critical of the cite-and-release program. They feel Gonzales is dismissing all misdemeanor drug cases but also a large amount of felony drug cases.
Liberal/leftist politicians and community supporters of both Gascon and Gonzales accuse the critics of "fear-mongering" and – of course – of being racist. They claim that liberal policies address “social justice” for minorities victimized by “systemic racism.” Local elected Democrat officials in both Los Angeles and San Antonio seem to be working hand-in-hand with Black Lives Matter activists to undermine law and order at the local level.
Gascon and Gonzales are creating a public safety risk for their communities by not prosecuting criminals. They are on a slippery slope by excusing "minor" crimes or because they were committed by someone low-income or a minority. The law must be enforced in all cases, and it should NOT be a respecter of persons.
Liberal/leftist politicians, community leaders, and the liberal news media refuse to believe that crime, anti-social behavior, and civil disorder encourage further crime and disorder, including more serious crime. If crime and bad behavior are excused and justified because of income and race, more crime and anti-social behavior happen.
Citizens and voters need to act locally to protect their communities and themselves by demanding the D.A.s prosecute all crimes. Communities like Portland and Milwaukee, who vilified the police and refused to prosecute rioters, are suffering as crime and insurance costs rise and businesses leave.
A civilized society cannot and should not tolerate crime and anti-social behavior. Any elected officials who refuse to enforce the law must be removed and replaced with someone who will. Public officials should protect lawful citizens, and the District Attorney should prosecute criminals, not excuse them.
