San Antonio and Bexar County are going to set a record for homicides in 2022 with an estimated 200 homicides. The shootings and homicides are beginning to spill over into quiet residential suburbs like Hollywood Park.
The main reason for the growth in violence is the liberal George Soros-funded Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales. He is supported by local judges and magistrates that are also liberal Democrats who believe more in social justice than in enforcing the laws and punishing criminals.
Another reason is the attitude of politicians toward law enforcement whom they view with disdain and disrespect. To liberal elected officials, police and laws are the problems, not criminals. They want social justice, not enforcement of the laws.
Since the George Floyd incident, The City of San Antonio and SAPD leaders have adopted policies that limit police officers in their work, and favor criminals. The lack of support for law enforcement has created a morale problem among officers. While police officers are expected to be “kinder and gentler”, criminals are still vicious and dangerous.
Also, The SAPD is facing a staff shortage that the liberal Democrat Mayor Ron Nirenberg and liberal Bexar County leaders refuse to acknowledge. There are fewer officers hired, while others are opting for early retirement, and some are resigning in mid-career. This officer shortage affects response time, visibility on the streets (which is a deterrent to crime) and staffing of special units for investigations and SWAT.
DA Joe Gonzales (Let ‘em go Joe) keeps releasing repeat offenders because of race and income in the name of social justice. Justice should NOT respect race or income.
A classic example is a standoff on the far east side that involved an armed mentally ill man. The man had been arrested previously for shooting a neighbor but was released by the DA on bond. Shortly after getting home, he shot at a neighbor’s dog and threatened some neighbors.
The man barricaded himself in his house and SAPD SWAT was called to the scene. However, even though the man was alone in the house and clearly a danger to the surrounding homes, SAPD SWAT could NOT use tear gas to get him out or enter the house…because City and SAPD leaders forbid it.
With regards to the bonding out of dangerous people, DA Gonzales works closely with leftist groups like Texas Organizing Project to provide bail for people arrested. Many of these arrested people are repeat offenders who go out and commit more crimes.
Unfortunately, thanks to the liberal Democrats at City Hall, the County Courthouse, and the County District Attorney’s office, San Antonio, and Bexar County are going in the same direction as other major cities with high problems like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Minneapolis. Criminals are excused while law enforcement is punished.
The George Soros-funded DA and the liberal/leftist SA city council continue to blame laws and law enforcement. However, they excuse and tolerate criminals based on their race and income.
The crime and violence will continue until citizens and taxpayers replace the County DA, the local judges, and magistrates in the local judicial system with pro-law and order officials. They must also replace the County Courthouse and City Hall leaders.
When criminal behavior is excused because of race and income in the name of social justice and when repeat offenders are bailed out, crime increases and gets worse.
