A man who reportedly shot his girlfriend last week was shot by San Antonio police officers after he attempted to flee during a traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon, March 14. This shooting incident will no doubt create a stir among the anti-police leftist activists who accuse the SAPD of “police violence" and are pushing a city charter proposal to limit the SAPD.
According to reports, between 1:30 and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, SAPD officers attempted a traffic stop with the man, who had a felony warrant for beating and hospitalizing his girlfriend. The man fled during the stop and was chased by SAPD on Southcross Road. The female managed to exit the vehicle. He had a female in the car who managed to escape early in the chase.
Reports say the man eventually exited the car and held a gun to his head, then pointed it at officers. It was then that the officers opened fire striking an unspecified number of times. Whether the man fired any shots from his own gun was not immediately available. However, he was conscious and talking when he was taken to the hospital.
The SAPD is investigating the incident and the officers involved are all on temporary reassignment as per SAPD policy while their actions are reviewed.
Anti-police activists, especially ACT4SA, who are trying to limit the police, and eventually defund and abolish the SAPD, will no doubt make this incident a part of their campaign to pass Proposition A in the May election. Proposition A is designed to favor criminals but limit, control, and discourage law enforcement.
The George Sorors-funded Bexar County District Attorney, Joe Gonzales, and the local liberal news media will also pile on and portray the shooting as unnecessary. DA Gonzales even has a special office to prosecute police officers.
Police shootings are rare while civilian shootings are extremely common. Statistics show that most officer shootings occur when a suspect resists and/or pulls a weapon. Liberals and leftists are either clueless or uncaring about officers’ safety.
San Antonio is experiencing the highest spike in crime and violence in decades, and it is due to the lack of support for police officers by the city and community leaders, and news media. On the other hand, people, especially young people, are taught and encouraged to be disrespectful of authority and law enforcement. Proposition A will make things worst for citizens’ public safety.
We need to encourage people to live law-abiding lives while punishing criminals and anti-social behavior. Stop blaming the police for crime and violence.
