On Wednesday, March 29, for the second day in a row, San Antonio police shot a suspect who fired on officers. Liberal news, politicians, and leftist community leaders are beginning to claim, “exceed police use of force”. These liberals and leftists ignore the fact that what is happening in the streets is because of their own undermining of law and order with a lack of public respect for police.
The incident happened at Arnold Park at the 1000 block of Gillette near Zarzamora around 12:50 p.m. SAPD Chief William McManus told reporters that the suspect fired about 12 shots from a handgun at police when they arrived. The police returned fire, hit the suspect, and he ran about 50 yards until he collapsed. The 23-year-old suspect was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
In accordance with SA Police Department policy, the officers who fired shots will be placed on administrative duty pending the investigation. This means that an already thin-staffed police force will be without several officers to cover some dangerous streets for an undetermined amount of time.
On Tuesday, March 28, SA police shot a suspect who shot at them in an incident on San Antonio's east side The suspect fired at least 26 shots from an AR-15 rifle toward police. One officer eventually fired a single shot, hitting the 33-year-old suspect who is described as having "an extensive history" with law enforcement.
Liberal and leftist community leaders are pushing for “police accountability” with a “Justice Charter” to amend the city charter. The new charter would limit police actions and protect criminals and suspects. This would be the same type of politics that other cities have instituted and left them grappling with crime waves.
During this period of high crime and violence, San Antonio does not need a Justice Charter to control police violence.
The news reports claim this is the fourth shooting involving an SAPD officer in the month of March and the sixth one so far in 2023. However, the news media should count how many civilians shoot or stab other civilians every week. They should condemn criminal and violent behavior and stop blaming the police.
