SA city council members will hold public hearings to “discuss” the city budget’s priorities and spending. Citizens should understand that public spending priorities should be for projects and programs that serve ALL citizens, not just some special interests. (https://www.ksat.com/news/
Citizens should be concerned that the city will use a Bloomberg equity model to distribute resources. The model uses census tracts to determine the scores for allocation of city resources. The higher the percentage of people of color, Spanish as a first language, high illiteracy, and below-median household income, the more resources the tract gets. (https://www.bloomberg.org/
SA Mayor Ron Nirenberg appointed several progressives to chair the 2022 citizens' bond committees, and they pushed the equity agenda to reallocate resources. According to the city website, it “will address disparities across a variety of indicators and improve access to opportunity for all San Antonio residents. In addition, we hope that the tool is used to help government and community partners make San Antonio a more inclusive and equitable city to live, learn, work, and play.” (https://www.
In short, it is a socialist system for taking from rich neighborhoods and giving to poor ones. However, this approach to resource allocation is another form of affirmative action, thus discrimination. Any prioritizing of resource allocations based on color and language violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment and Article 1 of the Texas Constitution.
Liberal-elected city leaders have dominated the city government in recent years, creating programs that serve special interests, even when most citizens oppose them. The city has used public funds to provide housing and legal services for illegal aliens, to assist people who want an abortion, and to support the United Nations climate change program.
Citizens should be especially wary of what District 2 council member McKee-Rodriguez prioritizes spending. He is anti-law enforcement and believes the government should fund programs for liberal social change.
Citizens should demand that public funds go to public safety, especially when there is a high crime rate. It should also serve sidewalks, streets, water systems, sewer systems, other projects, and programs serving ALL citizens.
San Antonio citizens must hold the liberal city council accountable for their tax money. Get involved. Attend the budget meetings and speak up.
