On Wednesday, April 7, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott held a press conference announcing an investigation pending accusations of child sex abuse, neglect, and more at the Freeman Expo Center in San Antonio, where thousands of migrant children are being housed. Gov. Abbott said there were four complaints, including claims of child sex abuse at the facility, understaffing, children not eating, and the failure to separate children with or without COVID-19.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office later confirmed it was called out at 5:16 pm to investigate the allegations of a sexual offense. Because of the nature of the incident and the investigation's preliminary status, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office could only release limited information.
